Hello, gorgeous, welcome back to NK Production Leading Her Way podcast, where we see the human, evolving and resilient spirit in you. I'm your host, Nikisha, and on today's growth series we're going to be speaking about beyond numbers, embracing the value-centric growth mindset. This is important because your mindset is the way you think, the way you see things, and this is a gift from your upbringing. And if you don't choose to do anything with that, you're constantly playing that same record over and over again, record over and over again. However, we are now privy, meaning conscious, to mindset work. It's everywhere. So in today's episode, when I speak about it, we're actually going to pinpoint it into your business from a value place rather than a numbers place, and I'm going to get into that. So now shifting our perspective on business growth and exploring why growing a business isn't just about numbers but it's about delivering genuine value about your market, your community.
Nikisha King:There are some people I speak to as entrepreneurs and they are always willing to limit their growth, and anytime I hear an entrepreneur says I want to remain small, what I actually am hearing is that I want to be selfish with the value, with the gift that I've been given. And sometimes when they say that, and there's nothing wrong with being selfish, by the way, you're more than welcome to be anything you want to be. That is not a negative word, in my opinion. When they say that, it usually comes from a fear of if they grow their team, their business, they can't control it. They don't want to have any power over anyone and the biggest thing is they don't want to lose their family. They don't want to lose what they have at the current time, especially if they have younger kids. It makes sense, but in my opinion, it's not true. The thought that you will lose your family control anyone are made up stories that when you watch movies or watch other people get on stage and speak about their experience, you absorb that experience as yours, and it's not your life. Your decisions won't get you in the same position as Jeff Bezos, elon Musk, who else? I forget some of our other amazing people in the world. Sorry, those two male figures are big in our industry, but we have Oprah Winfrey, we have the Prince Harry. All of these beautiful people have made decisions. Some of them wasn't theirs, it's family related, but it led them to something bigger than themselves when they were younger. I don't know if they knew. They didn't know that this would become their life, but what they did know was that, beyond numbers, they embraced value, impact, and that selfless behavior led to where they are today.
Nikisha King:So if you are one of those entrepreneurs who are saying I don't want to have a big team, a big business, know that is being selfish. It doesn't matter what you want. Or let me put it another way, when you keep saying that you keep diminishing your purpose, skills and value you have to give to your market because you're literally subconsciously holding back from doing your best work because you're so hung up on I don't want to have a big team or a big business, when you say that it minimizes who you truly are, the amazing human being put on this earth to do amazing things. So, just if anything, take that with you and consider that. Now let's define what growth mindset is and how we're going to talk about it today in this episode. Your growth mindset transcends from mere metrics. It embraces a holistic approach to business development. It's about fostering a mindset that prioritize creating value, serving others and continuously evolving to meet the needs of your marketplace and your community. Going beyond numbers and looking at it from a value perspective is so crucial, I think, of my story.
Nikisha King:When I started my company in 2009, from 2009 to 2021, before my transformation, I was driven by numbers. But I want to tell you a secret Numbers really don't exist. The value I put behind the numbers is what I was driven by. So some of my reasons I was driven was one before I got into my business, I worked since I was 13. I always worked because my mom always worked. My mom was a workabee. She was a hard, not was. She is a hard worker. She still works and she's in her 70s. That is my mom. That is her story.
Nikisha King:So at the age of 13, before I got my worker's permit in the city, I was working voluntarily, getting paid off the books. Then I started to work because I got my working permit and I kept working and working. So I was driven by money, because that's what I was taught about. I wasn't taught about value creating, putting my work in the world. Hence the reason I didn't know what my worth was, because I never was taught the value of it or anything that was about that. I was taught about go get the money, because the money is going to help you.
Nikisha King:Now, in my journey of starting my business I was money driven. But I'm money driven because I created the bills that went with the money that I needed to pay my bills. My business has never been in a place where when I got paid in the earlier stages, when I got paid, it was for me, it was always for bills. Do you have that experience where you only have expenses because all the products you're creating drives up your costs or expense and the next thing you know, when you get paid for the job, majority of it goes to your expenses? That's because there's no strategic planning in place, there's no plan. So that's how I worked, with no plan. So I would go out, get a new machine, do this, have an idea but no plan. So I would spend for the machine but no plan on how to make it work for me, make it work for the money I put into it. Right, make sense. So I was driven by making money to pay the bills I was generating. And when you think of it that way, you go from that approach. All you care about is the revenue, income, profits, if you make any. And when you're doing that, it is a selfish deed, it is a me, it's about me, it's not about anyone else.
Nikisha King:A lot of business owners who have succeeded. I don't believe they were number driven. They knew the importance of it. That's why they got a CFO. Just a side note, just a side sarcastic note. This is my personality, sorry. They got a CFO but, as a visionary, they weren't driven by the money. They were driven by the value. They wanted to be impactful to the lives of other people. So they showed up differently. They showed up doing things differently and they didn't sit in their garage and say I don't want to have a big team, I don't want to build a big business, because they were scared. They sat there and said there's a problem. People don't have access to information. They don't have access to a personal computer. We can build one of those. Let's get the parts, pay for the parts, put it together and the plan is promote and sell it to companies so that we can get it in the hands of individuals to see how it works and what we can change and create. They were driven by innovation. Yes, we listen about Bill Gates' story in college and Zuckerberg when they were in their college. They weren't sitting there crying and thinking about building something big. They were driven by the possibility of creating something that can change the marketplace, change an individual, make it easier for someone they were driven.
Nikisha King:When you are in your journey of growing your business, stop making stories up and telling yourself if your business gets bigger you won't be around for your family. You might become popular. I told myself these stories too. I might not have my privacy. Everyone's going to know me All a crock of poo. Okay, because there are people I know who are really doing amazing work in this world Brooke Costello, for women, all types of women, and she is big in our world, but the whole world doesn't know her and she's okay with that because she still can show up for her family. She still can show up for the people she care about.
Nikisha King:The possibility is there. If you look for it, you'll see it, but it's when you're narrow-minded, when your growth mindset is limited to the circumstances. You've for it, you'll see it, but it's when you're narrow-minded, when your growth mindset is limited to the circumstances. You've always seen People who make money, especially if you look at housewives. Oh my gosh, housewife, the Beverly Hills one.
Nikisha King:You may be interpreting that Kyle and her husband got a divorce because he was making so much money and never around. You can do that to yourself, minimize yourself based on someone else's experience. But, to be honest, they disconnected because they weren't taking time, and investing time in one another has nothing to do with their financial upload or growth. Those are excuses. People are people and they always have a challenge and we have external circumstances that amplify that challenge. Something was already there. It became amplified when that opportunity of building all of those real estate companies around the world started to happen. So don't get it twisted. Your story is not my story. My story is not your story. However, with a growth mindset shift, you can create your story to what you desire it to be through your planning, strategic planning. Once again, yes, I'm coming up with these words because it's part of your growth mindset. I want you to get that. You can create whatever reality you choose to, but it's through value, it's through what you want it to be for you and not looking outside of you.
Nikisha King:Now, when I was in the beginning of my business, solely focusing on just the money, the profit, I wasn't innovative. I wasn't creating products or anything for my market. I didn't know I had a market. I didn't know I had a market. I didn't know who my market was. I thought my market was people who were cheap and wanted to spend $1,000 on invitations. I thought my market didn't have money. I thought my market wasn't capable. I thought my market thought this was just only paper. Of course they would think that, because there was no value, I didn't sell them a value product, I sold them a money product. Did you get that Exactly? So I had to learn through my transformation that I was hungry for I wasn't at my 10 and pain point because I didn't have pain, but I was hungry for something different because I was tired of the same BS that I was serving myself. That's what happened to me on my transformation journey.
Nikisha King:So when I shifted my perspective in thinking about myself, in thinking about me and not serving my marketplace, my community, when I changed my perspective on that, something happened when I got curious about how can I help my clients, when I got curious on how can I help my planners because planners are always wiped out because of all the work that they have to orchestrate without a team. A lot of them do it on their own and they keep wiping out and they don't realize that, in understanding, I wanted to create something to help them. That's when innovation came along. That's when value came along. That's when I started charging the numbers. I charge $15,000, $21,000, $18,000 and make it because the value is there. We have heard many times people don't buy based on numbers, they buy on the value. And a lot of people get it and some don't, because they really think it's a number game. The number game only exists because of the bills you create for the number game, and you create the bills because you think you're producing products that will sell, but you're producing products with no plan that may not sell. Now you have to pay the bill back, so now it becomes a number game.
Nikisha King:Value gain or the value game is when you see a problem and you create a product and you're driven to create something to solve that problem. And then, when you solve that problem, there'll be a demand for it, because the problem is a marketplace problem, not an individual, but a marketplace problem. And then that's when people will pay you and that's when your brand will get bigger and bigger, without you wanting it or not. When you're selfless, I promise you you will grow without even recognizing you're growing. That's why you don't need to worry about it. It happens because you're serving, it's when you're not serving and you're thinking about all of the things that's going to happen, and it's about you.
Nikisha King:You will always stay small and if you want to stay small, fine. But then why are you doing a business? Just do a nine to five. Do a nine to five with a hobby on the side. Yeah, sometimes I'm really just straight. Sometimes I'm just tired of all the people who are here and they're not doing or serving, and it's about them. And if you don't have the time, minimize it, just do a 9 to 5 and a hobby. Or just be at home with your babies. It's fine because you don't need to do anything. But when they get older, you can now transition back into the field where you're going to serve, and you can.
Nikisha King:When I had babies, my reasoning of not working had nothing to do with me wanting to serve my market, so I stepped back. I was just burnt out. Transitions were hard as hell, but I'm happy I did them, because now I get to show up differently, because my babies are no longer babies. They're nine and 12, going on 10 and 13. Do I still get to enjoy them? I do. Do I make time for them on the weekends? Hell yes, I do Monday through Friday at school for six hours, so I get that time to work. When they were young I didn't have six hours. I had like, in my opinion, nothing, but now I do. So I use those times efficiently, trust me, there are days I work late when they are home, but I do my best to compensate on the weekend for that. All the loving, the hugging and all of that.
Nikisha King:But I just want to serve, and when I serve, it will feel like I'm splitting myself in two, but that's not true, because it's how I plan to show up and plan to do. I've made it my point on Friday through Sunday, I'm not in the office. Therefore, I put things in place to make sure when I'm not here, somebody has everyone's back. Who wants to be here Friday? Does that make sense? You put things in place through your strategic planning to help support the value-based business you're growing and not the number-based business.
Nikisha King:Now, be careful, because caring for other people will bring you success, good success. The more you care for your community, the more you care for your marketplace, your ideal client, the more they're going to want to pay you and the more they're going to want to tell everyone about you and the more people they're going to bring into your world. And, yes, you will grow. And yes, you will have solutions to having a team and educating and teaching and onboarding. And, yes, there'll be days you'll get frustrated, but if you have a plan, it gets easier. If you have teams, team members that support you, it gets easier. But you thinking you can build a business on your own is not true. You can build it to a certain point, but I promise you you're going to need another human being in it to help you carry the load. So let's talk about your action plan in this episode. So there's three things I would like you to work on Reframe your mindset regarding your growth of your business.
Nikisha King:Understand it's not a number game. Yes, you do have to pay your bills that you created. Yes, you do got to get paid, but it's the value that you understand that you have your strengths that will help someone else in their journey, either by them making money, either by them having some pain point relief. We have so many opportunities here in the US, so you know what that is for you and understanding that the more you show up with that value, then the money comes. You're welcome to try to create ideas that will generate money for you. Keep going if that's what you're doing.
Nikisha King:But if you notice that you're still a tiny micro business but you really want to grow, re-evaluate that. If you are a micro business and you don't want to grow, re-evaluate the stories and fear you're putting into your storyline and think about how selfish that is, because it's not about you. Business is never about what you want, unless that's a selfish mechanism. It's usually about what are you creating to help someone else out. And if you're serving really serving you don't give a crap about the growth of big or small of your business. You're like, really adamant about the product you're producing and people will love that product. Oh my God, they will love that product.
Nikisha King:Second action plan serve your market fearlessly. Get excited about the products you produce, no matter what. It is service-based, product-based In service. You do have products. I have coaching products right, and they are service, but they're something I'm selling. It's a transfer. Get fearless with it. Know that.
Nikisha King:Scaling your business it's about resisting the temptation to let your fear dictate your decisions. It's about fixating. Instead of fixating on potential risk or setbacks, focus on the opportunity to serve your market. Serve them effectively, make a positive difference in their life, show up fearlessly. And the third action is empower others. Oh my God, being a business owner means you get to help other people on their journey through hiring them, through connecting and collaborating on projects with them.
Nikisha King:Understand, recognizing the true growth extends beyond you. It's about empowering others to reach their full potential. One thing I love about being a business owner I have the ability to speak to other people and work in a collaborative partnership. We have the ability to create a flow of energy between us in producing a product, and if we do that fearlessly, without all those negative thoughts, we're going to do something big. Create a flow of energy between us in producing a product, and if we do that fearlessly, without all those negative thoughts, we're going to do something big. I'm actually doing something big and I'm grateful for it, and what we're doing is going to produce so much value that the numbers will come after. Keep moving forward. You are capable of anything. Update your mindset, so go beyond your numbers and embrace that value growth mindset. Remember that true growth stems from a commitment to delivering value and serving others.
Nikisha King:Like I said, you can be selfish, and there's nothing wrong with that. But being selfish will keep you limited, binded, tiny, and if that's okay with you, it's okay with me, because I'm not here to tell you what's right or wrong. I'm just here to share perspective. And if you know that's not who you are, then show up fearlessly. Show up big Thank you and have an amazing day. Show up, big Thank you and have an amazing day.
Nikisha King:Hey, before you go, I got a golden opportunity for you. Yes, you, it's a chance that's too good to pass up. A chance to work with me one-on-one, practically for free. Imagine waving a magic wand and saying goodbye to feeling completely overwhelmed, anxious and all those feelings that keep you stuck from selling your services.
