Mia LaMotte:Thank you so much for joining us on Leading Her Way podcast. I am so elated to have you with me in the Make Money series. This series is so important and so good because we're starting off with a new year and I know that every business owner their objective is to serve, but also to generate money to live their lifestyle. So I definitely want to get into this because I know for a fact you talk about mindset and you talk about all of these amazing topics and I wanted to know for you what your thoughts are on how limiting beliefs stop entrepreneurs from making money. So my first question to you are what are some of the most common limiting beliefs that you believe have created entrepreneurs to struggle in their business?
Mia LaMotte:Yeah, Nikisha, thank you so much for having me. And yeah, like through the coaching with my clients, I have found and myself included right, I think the first limiting belief is money will solve it all. Ah, that's a really good one.
Mia LaMotte:Yes, right, I think that a lot of us believe that, especially when we're coming from a place of scarcity, we believe that money will solve all of the problems that we have. And it's actually quite the opposite. Like we get to solve our problems and money shows up. So you know, right, entrepreneur, if you're an entrepreneur, you know that your actual business is solving a problem for someone and that's how you actually get paid. So, believing that money solves the problem, it's, it's, it's actually reversed. So I think that's the number one limiting belief. Number two, I believe we there's.
Mia LaMotte:There's typically a a scarce. If you're having an issue with money when it comes to being an entrepreneur, there's typically a scarcity. If you're having an issue with money when it comes to being an entrepreneur, there's typically a scarcity conversation either in I don't have enough or I have I have enough, but I'm afraid to spend it. So the people who spend it all are the people who save it, hoard it. Right, those are two separate ends of the spectrum of scarcity. So letting go of the scarcity mindset is how I believe we make more money. And then finally, like the energy, right Money is an energy exchange. Right, money is an energy exchange. And most of us put way too much energy in the power that money has, instead of looking at I am more powerful than money. My human beingness, I'm more powerful than money, and so when you come from that perspective, then the the floodgates open up.
Mia LaMotte:I love what you said about I'm more powerful than money. I understand money as a currency has power because it allows you to purchase things you desire and want. I get that, but that whole idea of I'm more powerful than money, that hit home for me. That hit home because think about it. When someone hears that they're going to go first, I promise you the first thing they're going to think is that's not true. So all the listeners out there I know you're thinking that's not true.
Mia LaMotte:Money is more powerful than me, but you have to realize, first and foremost, all the companies in the world that make a good amount of money. Who's up there. The whole thing that they're serving us with is the value that they offer. The minds of all those people came up with an idea, executed that idea and we bought into that idea. And we bought into it by giving them money for the thing that they do to make our lives easier. There's no one out there selling money for money, right? So the fact that you said I'm more powerful than money, yeah, Write that down. Listeners, make sure you put that in your mantra, your affirmations list, Cause that is life changing, Absolutely.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and I love what you said about money being currency. A lot of us feel like, you know, money is this thing that we, we really don't understand it. Right, we don't understand that it is a currency. And when you think about what a current actually is, right, it's like electromagnet or current as in, like the waves in the ocean, and these things are meant to go in and go out. Money is meant to go in, come in and go out, just like the waves are and just like electricity currents. And when you think about money as electricity, when you think about money as water, it takes on a different meaning. It doesn't have as much control over you as it would if you were thinking of it in the way that we typically think of it, like it's out there, we can't get it, we can't get enough, can't get enough and while and you know, like I said earlier, like giving our power away to it it's, it's actually, you know, it's so backwards, it's so true, it's flow.
Mia LaMotte:I love using the word flow. Money is flow, just like how you described it. It comes in and it goes out.
Mia LaMotte:If we stop the flow of it, it doesn't. It doesn't come back. It has to continuously flow. It's what keeps our economy going right. We put money in it and we get that money back. We show up for work, we do our job, someone pays us and the reason they got paid is because someone paid them. Absolutely, it flows.
Mia LaMotte:But I don't think people get it on their individual spectrum. They understand it from the macro, but when it's the micro point of view they're forgetting. That is how it's something I learned from a book called Happy Money, where when I go out and I do a tip, no longer is a tip painful, but a tip is success for me. A tip is like I get to say thank you in a certain way to this human being who did something for me that added value to my life. And then when I tip them, they get to go out and do something they enjoy with the money I've invested or given to them. And when I saw this new point of view, I was like, oh, this is really good. I was like this is something I can buy into, I can believe, because it is a fact For me. It is a fact. I'm assuming everyone else should know that if you give someone money, they get to use it in the way they choose. So I think that's so, so good.
Mia LaMotte:Now here's the thing as an entrepreneur, most of the services that are sold to entrepreneurs is how to make money, and it's usually through sales, teaching them how to sell, teaching them how to market, and we have a specific framework for selling and marketing.
Mia LaMotte:Like for marketing, you need to go out and do advertising, you need to get out, you need to do this, you need to do that Right, and that's all I believe is true. You need to do this, you need to do that right, and that's all I believe is true. But what happens when someone shows up doing that work but their energy is low? And their energy is low because they don't think that it's going to really work for them, because somehow for them it doesn't work like everyone else? And I want to know do you believe, if someone has low energy and really in their mind, this limiting belief, this story that they kept telling themselves is not going to work for me, it's not going to work for me, I'm never going to make money Do you think it's possible for them to learn the framework and then make money all of a sudden, or no?
Speaker 3:No no way, no way. So, oh, there was so many good you know tidbits that you just said just now. So the first thing I would say is, like I believe the low energy comes from, you know, the lack in belief, like you said, of that it's going to work, but I believe it's even deeper than that. Like, when we don't really know ourselves or trust ourselves, it's really hard for us to convey to another person that what I have to offer is absolutely going to change your life. What I have to offer is absolutely going to give you the results that you're looking for, and the reverse is true as well. Like, if we don't trust ourselves, we're not going to really trust other people.
Speaker 3:So, you know, I liken it to hiring coach, right? So if somebody hired you but they don't really trust themselves to do the work that you're teaching them to do, right, like, it's not going to be successful. You're not going to be successful if you don't put in the work Right, exactly, yeah. So I think the biggest thing, though, is like trusting yourself, but knowing yourself, and when you know yourself, you do show up in a different energy, you do show up more confident, you do show up in a way that conveys to people that, oh yeah, she knows what she's doing Right, and I really want to get to know her she knows what she's doing Right and I really want to get to know her Right Exactly and that all stems from confidence confidence in what you're selling.
Mia LaMotte:Clarity usually leads to confidence, right? A lot of clients that I have. Sometimes the clarity is all they're missing. I feel like sometimes that's the missing link to making money. But here's the thing Everyone tells you when it comes to clarity and confidence, you really can't sell it, so you have to sell the framework to get them through the door and then, when they get through the door, ask the questions. That gives them clarity and confidence plus the framework. Right.
Mia LaMotte:And I think it's so amazing because, as this new year approaches, as we're in it and there's so many opportunities at our door, if you don't do the deep work, really do the deep work making money will feel like the most challenging thing for you all of the time. Time. And I truly believe you have to go in with the open mindset of one. What I'm offering is it really valuable? And no, it's not valuable to everyone. The 1 billion whatever number population? No, because everyone doesn't need what you have, but there is someone, or the number you need. If you do your reverse engineering, your financials, you know that number and I just want them to understand that their limiting beliefs are like literally standing in their way. You know what I mean, mia. Do you recall in your journey as being an entrepreneur what your limiting belief was? That was standing in your way of growing your business?
Speaker 3:Oh, so many, and they still show up. Okay, I don't want people to believe that they don't show up for me, because they do. However, I am aware of them quicker than I used to be.
Speaker 3:And just what you like, just what you just said. You were talking about, you know, being in a new year and opportunities being right at our door. I remember having a conversation I was at lunch with two colleagues. Both of these people are successful. One has a multimillion dollar business, one you know in the, in the six figures, you know in the six figures, and we were having a conversation about the opportunity that is here in Raleigh, north Carolina, right now, where I live, and I remember thinking, before we went to lunch, how everything is getting so expensive because there's so many people moving here.
Speaker 3:And then immediately having this conversation with them at lunch and here they are talking about all of the opportunity because of all of the people that are moving here and recognizing for myself, right, like, oh my God, that was a limiting belief, that was a belief that I was having about, you know, housing prices going up, food going up, like all of these things. And here is some two other people, right, that I respect and admire who are saying just the opposite. And so it's really about for me like having that awareness, like really quickly, because I still like, I still have these beliefs but being in spaces where there are people who think differently than I do and will call me out on my BS, because these are two people that I trust to call me out on my BS too.
Mia LaMotte:Yes, oh good, that's a good fact too. Who are you around? Proximity is power, and I got that from Tony Robbins and it's the people you surround yourself with. Because imagine when you said what you said and if you had two people around you who believed what your limiting belief was like, that was fact. You all would have been corralling like, yeah, everything is going up, everyone's moving in, all the things, and you left believing that limiting belief was a fact because two other people agree with you that you trusted yeah, yeah and I'm.
Speaker 3:And what really helped me was like I didn't even say that, I wasn't saying that to them. All of that was going that was my head trash. That was head trash. I didn't say that. The conversation naturally went there. So it was almost like I got this answer to the inner voice, the inner voice Like I was having this inner dialogue with myself. And then here comes these two guys say oh my God, look at all the opportunity that's here.
Mia LaMotte:Yes.
Speaker 3:Thank you. Right, and this goes back to something that you said when you were talking about the tip and being gratitude. Like I don't know about you, but when Oprah first started talking about gratitude, I thought it was this lofty idea. I really didn't get it. I honestly didn't get it back in the 90s what she meant by that. And now that I'm an entrepreneur, now that I am, you know, understanding these concepts, like everything just goes, like you said earlier, it's, it's deeper than what you think. Everything is deeper than surface level everything. And when we when I really got into this whole thing about gratitude and really looking at how, how the world works and being grateful for like breath right, when we think about our bodies and we don't have to do anything for them to work, yeah, it really does change my perspective.
Mia LaMotte:So true, so true. I recall in the 90s, all of the things right, I forgot his name, eckhart Tolle, when he came up with the power of now and all of those things, the paradigm shift which is mindset shift, and it felt like it was above and beyond, it was over my head. I was right there with you, like I think people were. Yeah, and as time came by, we all started to get on that page. Gratitude came into our life where today now, we can speak about it and people can understand it better, today, absolutely, and even what you were sharing about you being with those people and the conversation led there because your inner critic was going about all the things and they were able to say look at all the opportunities. If you didn't have them, who were doing such amazing things sorry, that would have limited you your inner voice could have won that battle if they didn't say what they said Right. And I think it's so important that, as entrepreneurs, when we seek out people to assist us in our journey, it's always better to seek out people who think differently than us, because if we're in their container, they lift us up rather than keep us where we are or limit us even more container. They lift us up rather than keep us where we are or limit us even more. And I think that's so important because there are some containers that I would go into and I'm just like there's one. I'm different. So sometimes I got to realize the container wasn't for me, like the people serving exactly need what they need in here.
Mia LaMotte:But there are moments it feels stuck. There are moments it feels like no one is talking about six figures, no one's talking about your energy. Your energy is what you need to put behind when you're selling. If your energy is low, there is no one coming into you in a console and being like I'm buying what you're selling because they don't even believe you, believe it, they don't believe you, they don't believe the product. You know what I mean. So I always tell people make. I love the question how to make money, cause everyone goes into marketing and sales and all the things, and I'm just like, if you think that's it, you're going to be on this beautiful hamster wheel for a pretty long time. I remember, I remember being there and I go. Yeah, you got to do all of that. But if your energy is not in a state where you're clear, confident in what you're selling. No matter what framework you put in place, you're going to be stuck, you know.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and I think you know, and, and our energy, like we attract what our energy is, right. So if you think about your energy as a magnet, when, when you are, when you are low and depressed and and feeling a certain feeling that kind of way, you attract more of that into your life, right, that's what the law of attraction is about. Most of us don't realize that. That's what it means, right. We attract who we are, not what we want, Exactly Right. And so when your energy is high, when your vibe is high, your vibration is high, like Oprah talks about this too. I didn't get this before either, I get it now. We're in a vibrational universe and what you vibrate, what your energy is, is what you attract.
Speaker 3:I was just seeing something on Instagram and when I say, like things go so much deeper than we realize, this woman was talking about the energy of clothes, like I'm an image consultant as well, talking about the energy of clothes like I'm an image consultant as well, and so I I got this concept like right away.
Speaker 3:But she was talking about how the energy of a person who's no living is is who's no longer living, is like like 50 and and I'm just using these numbers as a reference. Right, she says polyester right, which is synthetic, has the same energy as a dead person. So when you put these dead clothes on your dead body and you're still alive but on your dead psyche, you're not vibrating at the highest level that you could be vibrating at. So when you use natural fibers like cotton and silk and linen and things like that, you vibrate at a different energy you do. The food that we write, the things that we drink, like all of these things matter. The things we put in our body, on our body. It matters, right, your largest organ, and you put clothes on every day and you never think about the energy of the clothes, the energy of the people who made the clothes, like all of that stuff matters and it affects your energy.
Mia LaMotte:It does, it does. Yeah, and I love that you brought the clothing up, because I have a thing where in the past I would wear darker clothes and as I got older I started to going brighter and I like bright and I used to remember always being scared because I didn't know how to match. I didn't think I knew how to match to the point. Now I just dress and I dress with no consciousness, but somehow when I make it at my house I dress really well for someone to give me a compliment and it allows me to show up differently.
Mia LaMotte:My clothes that are vivid and bright. They just make me feel like my energy is like a hundred, like thousand. So when I show up in the room, I show up in the room like the same energy is coming out of me. And as even we speak about this, there's some people who are not going to understand this. They're not going to get that their energy can be vibrated or increased based on what they wear, what they eat and expect, exactly what they think. Right? These are the things that help us make and attract money. Right? If you walk into a room with confidence and there's someone in there who potentially might be looking at your IG and thinking, oh, this person's interesting, and now they get to see you and you're radiating, Do you not know they're going to walk up to you? Do you not know they're going to be interested in everything you have to say, holding on to your words, and what we're trying to say today is that, as an entrepreneur, your limiting beliefs are minimizing your energy.
Speaker 3:Yes.
Mia LaMotte:Tell them again, we're trying to tell you today your limiting beliefs are minimizing your energy, they are sucking life out of you and if you continue to allow them are sucking life out of you and if you continue to allow them to suck life out of you, making money will not be possible. You will make money, but you're always going to feel like you're not making enough and you might have some scarcity there, because that's part of your limiting belief. But what I'm hoping to do in this series is give you an opportunity to learn how to increase your energy, how to rise, and having all of these amazing speakers and professionals like Mia come in and share a little bit about that, share a little bit about that. So one I want to know, as an image consultant, what are three tips you think you can give to the audience about how to increase their energy through their image, through their clothing, through their just share with us.
Speaker 3:Sure.
Speaker 3:So I would say the first thing is about the actual things that you put on your body, right? So it's not just about the the clothes and where they come from. It's also going to be about the color. Right, you talked about wanting to express yourself in a different way and wearing these bright colors and how the bright colors gave you more energy, right, right, everybody can't pull off bright colors, everybody can't wear a bright color, and a bright color may drain their energy. So knowing you know through color analysis, knowing what colors work for you, will give you energy. Wearing clothes that are in harmony with your natural coloring is what's going to give you energy.
Speaker 3:The second thing that I would say is when the clothes fit you. Well. There's so many people that wear clothes that are too big because they're trying to hide themselves, or they wear clothes that are too small because they're trying to show off something or they don't really know fit. Right, when your clothes don't fit you, you're also limiting your energy and how your energy can be projected. And then you know, finally, like it's all about how much you are in love with your body and we all have things that we don't like about our bodies, right?
Speaker 3:But what I would say is that the more you get in love with your body and appreciate it for the things that it does do for you, like I said, we don't have to think about breathing, we don't have to think about our eyes popping open when we wake up in the morning, we don't have to think about how to walk right these things. We don't have to think about our heart beating. We have to think about keeping our heart pumping all day long. Like do you understand how difficult it would be for us to do that? Yeah Right. So like, get in love and appreciate and honor that about our bodies, instead of oh, you know, I don't really like, you know, my belly or I don't like whatever, you know, I don't really like my belly or I don't like whatever parts of my body Getting into appreciation about the fact that our bodies are so intelligent and they do so much on their own that all of those other things can just exude from there, and then you get the energy from that.
Mia LaMotte:So true, so true. And here's the thing Remember when you spoke about gratitude? Yes, and you spoke right just now about body. If you find the things you're grateful for about your body, I promise you you don't have space for the negative you don't. If you find the things that you are not comfortable with, but you find a way to love them anyway, that gratitude will give you energy as well.
Mia LaMotte:There was a moment, I think two years ago maybe a year or two, because we're in 2024, maybe 2023 was my transformation for my body, where my body has always been amazing for the external right, Like everyone would see me, I have a specific shape that when I was younger, people would compliment and I never even knew. It was a thing, I promise you. When they complimented, I was like I don't know what you're talking about, because my world was not about shapes of my body. But as I got older, I embraced it and I still have it After two pregnancies. I'm grateful I still have it.
Mia LaMotte:But even though I have that, I still had flaws that I felt were mine, but I had to reframe them. The energy, trust me, the energy then was so low, but once I started falling in love with every part of me that I was questioning, uncomfortable and just appreciating that I still have them, because people don't get to keep certain body parts. People go through illnesses and diseases that literally take these things from them. And for me to still have mine relativity I had to be like, okay, how can I appreciate it? Because one day it could be gone it's not guaranteed, it is not so I wanted to learn how to appreciate them in that moment and just appreciate them every day. And as I transfer and transferred into that, I felt the energy rise. I feel the joy that I live with every day where I go out in the world, and nothing shifts me.
Mia LaMotte:But I can shift the mood of anyone because of who. I am Right, and with that comes the ability to give value to the people you're here to serve and to increase your financial gain in the world to make money, yeah, and the fact that we have so many opportunities to shift our energy clothing being one thinking about what we're eating, what we put on, colors, the way we feel about ourselves these are all factors that are available to each and every one of us. It's not like Mia only gets it and we don't get what she got. You know what I mean. It's available to all of us. It's not like Mia only gets it and we don't get what she got.
Speaker 3:You know what I mean. Right, it's available to all of us and I love how you talk about like energy has been like mostly what we're focusing on today, right?
Mia LaMotte:Yeah.
Speaker 3:And what I know for sure, as Oprah would say like I don't know why I'm doing all these Oprah references today, but yay to Oprah. But what I know for sure is like where your energy, where your energy goes, right, your attention goes. That's where energy flows. And so when we're talking about appreciation for our bodies right, your body is like oh, she appreciates me. Today I'm not going to. I'm going to make sure that she has the best experience in her body today. Oh, she appreciating her bank account today, I'm going to make sure that that bank account gets filled up today. So it's all about where attention is going. So, if you think about, this is one of my favorite references Like, when you think about when we wake up in the morning, most of us are waking up with oh my God, it's cold outside.
Speaker 3:Oh my God, I have to go to this job. Oh my God, I don't have any clients. Oh my God. Like we're waking up complaining about what we don't like about our lives, instead of waking up with that jumping out of bed, energy, ready to not even face the day but be a be a co-creator in the day.
Mia LaMotte:Exactly.
Speaker 3:Right, cause most of us are. If we, if we go in with the energy, if I'm facing the day, of course we're going to experience a day that we have to face, but if we go into the day with, oh, I'm co-creating this bad boy, like when we're in that energy, like think about all of the possibilities that can happen, and I think for me it's all about that, it's all about my come from Right, it's all about my come from.
Mia LaMotte:That's so true. That is so true. Let me give you guys another mantra. When I get out of bed, the first thing I say, when I open my eyes, it's an amazing day. It is amazing, and I only you know why. I know it's amazing Because I'm breathing. I get to do something today, I get to show up, and that's what makes it amazing. That's where the joy comes from. And I love what you said about co-create. Co-create your day rather than face your day head on. Yeah, that's a different type of energy too, oh my goodness Cause co-creating is like being in the world and giving value and showing up to the people you're meant to serve, whereas facing the day is like all the things that can go wrong, they'll go wrong and I have to face them.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that Murphy's Law is. I mean, you know, I get it, but we're in a different world today, like Murphy's Law does not need to apply unless you want it to, right. Yeah, I believe that you know, if we come in with, like I am co-creating today and co-creating can have, like this, heavy lift, if you allow it, right. But you know, if you believe that spirit, god, you know nature, whatever you call it, if you believe that you're being guided and you're living on purpose you talked about clarity earlier, right, and if you're clear about what your purpose is in life, it's really easy to get up, jump out of bed and be in a co-creation spirit.
Mia LaMotte:It is, but people have to choose it, and I think that's the challenge, right? That's the challenge. When we, as entrepreneurs, business owners, need to choose certain things in order to increase the value we give, right To have that capacity. And in giving value, that's where you make money. But in order for you to produce the value, you have to get up thinking not even thinking, but knowing you can co-create. If you don't get up knowing that you have value to give, sorry, making money is going to be one of the toughest things you're going to do, and it doesn't have to be.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and I think, Nikisha, you hit it on the head with the knowing, right, and the knowing is not like this egotistical kind of knowing. The knowing is from your gut, right, you know because you've done it. And here's the other part. Right, we have to go.
Speaker 3:Most entrepreneurs and business owners and I, you know, when I say most, I mean me, right? Um, when I first started out, it was like I was afraid to go and do the things that I knew I needed to do. I was afraid to have a discovery call. I was. I was actually glad when nobody showed up on my calendar so I didn't have to, you know, have a conversation about you know what it is that I did and get rejected, Right? So that was one of the first hurdles that I would say that I had to get over when it came to being successful. If you're not doing the things, if you're not taking action in your business, then you're not going to know anything. You can read all the books you want to read, you can take all the courses you want to take. If you're not actually doing and failing, you'll never have this knowing as a embodiment, right? Yeah?
Speaker 3:So, you've got to take inspired action. You've got to take any kind of action. It doesn't even have to be inspired Like do something.
Mia LaMotte:Exactly, I believe in the action, no matter what it is. Yeah, mia, it was a pleasure having you on this and, before you go, if you can just tie up in regards to three actionable steps that our audience can take in regards to their limiting belief and making money in their business, what would those three actionable steps be?
Speaker 3:The first one would be go on a journey of self-discovery, Be open to new experiences, figure out what you really love and go do that Right. The second thing would be get a mentor, get somebody that you're paying, get a coach it doesn't matter. Get yourself a team that's going to help you level up. Whether it's whatever it is, I would say that is haunting you the most. Go work on that first, because then the other stuff would be really easy. And then, finally, I really dig into gratitude and understand what gratitude is and start your day with the energy of. I am co-creating this and I believe that those three things would absolutely change the trajectory of your life and your business.
Mia LaMotte:I know they're true because that's what I did, exactly what I did, exactly what I did.
Speaker 3:And we've been in a conversation about this before Exactly what I did, and we've been in a conversation about this before. No, we didn't.
Mia LaMotte:Yeah Like that's exactly what I did. I found me a coach, fell in love with myself, and after that my world has changed dramatically. Hit it on the nail. So thank you so much.
